Since being awarded accredited status by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) in 1993 and reaccredited status in 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2020 the Union Township Police Department continues to be committed to the accreditation process. The department adheres to international standards for law enforcement agencies, with proof of compliance maintained by the accreditation manager.
This is an ongoing process, with all accredited law enforcement agencies undergoing re-accreditation every four years.
CALEA was formed to develop a set of law enforcement standards and to establish and administer an accreditation process through which law enforcement agencies could demonstrate voluntarily that they meet professionally-recognized criteria for excellence in management and service delivery. The accreditation process is administered by CALEA staff and awarded by the commission. This page displays the CALEA seal, which is displayed on the uniform of every Union Township officer.
